Tim Dowe celebrates an incredible 60 years hand-crafting racquets for Grays of Cambridge

From a 15-year-old in the glue shop at the Playfair Works on Benson Street to a master maker at our Coton workshop, Tim Dowe’s story spans six decades of skill, humour and dedication. He recalls the lively Cambridge factory, the industry’s shift from wood to graphite in the 1980s, and the small team that kept Real Tennis and Rackets alive. Today Tim is still at the bench, recreating beautiful wooden lawn-tennis racquets prized by players and collectors around the world.
